Sri Lanka - Indigenous rice varieties

The indigenous rice varieties of Sri Lanka are an integral part of the country's agricultural heritage and cultural identity. These varieties have been cultivated for generations and have adapted to the local climate, soil conditions, and farming practices. They often possess unique characteristics such as drought resistance, pest tolerance, and nutritional value.

In ancient Sri Lanka, farmers cultivated over 2000 indigenous varieties of rice.
